The SAMR model is[YD1] a way of looking at and thinking about technology integration in the classroom. It encourages teachers to go beyond merely substituting word processing for hand writing it encourages teachers to get creative and redefine the task. Each of the letters in the model has a different meaning. (Puentedura, 2009)
S is Substitution, the beginning of technology integration, trading technology for older manual methods with substitution, there is no change in the purpose of the task, at this stage technology is traded for manual methods such as word processing for handwriting. In augmentation the A of SAMR there is little change to the task it’s self it yet there is a functional. This could be having the students work in Google docs to which allows them to share their work with you in an instant and for you to provide feedback directly on the document and often in real time. The M is modification, the task has been changed significantly from the original with the technology, this would be similar to the students taking a quiz in Socrative, which provides instant feedback and can now even have imbedded photos and videos. The R is for redefinition this is where you are working on tasks in ways that previously would not have been possible, such as using methods like flipped classrooms and apps such as ed puzzle which allow you to annotate and insert questions into videos for your students to interact with and learn from at their own pace .
